A flamenco tribute from the soul of the piano
The timeless art of Camarón de la Isla and Paco de Lucía resonates today in the hands of Antón Cortés, a young flamenco pianist who pays tribute to them with an intimate, visceral, and respectful project. “A Camarón y Paco de Lucía” is a song from the keys, where the piano becomes a voice, a string, a lament. A free reinterpretation but deeply rooted in the essence of the purest and most revolutionary flamenco.
With his own compositions, melodic evocations, and sonic tributes, Antón Cortés invites the audience to feel once again the flame of two geniuses who transformed flamenco forever.
Here there is no imitation, there is dialogue.
There is no nostalgia, there is a living presence.
There is no past, there is a legacy in motion.
Despite his 18 years old, this concert features unique and extraordinarily difficult compositions that only Antón himself can perform. With his artistry, he transforms the voice of Camarón and the guitar of Paco into an unprecedented piano language—intense, virtuosic, and deeply moving.
The young Mallorcan pianist, who has gone from being a promising talent to being recognized as a leading figure in flamenco piano, presents his new project “A Camarón y Paco de Lucia” with a careful selection of songs by both icons that, due to their complexity and the virtuosity required to perform this complex program, only Antón can currently execute with such skill in the world of flamenco. He does so with an exclusive, innovative, and spontaneous method that allows him to convey all the expressiveness and sensitivity of his art on the piano.
We have all heard of duende in flamenco art, whether dancing, singing, or playing the cajón or guitar. It is something that cannot be described, but can be felt. It cannot be sought, but sometimes it arrives. And everyone perceives it, instantly, even if only for that moment. It is that duende that all musicians seek, and that a few find or perceive at some point in their performance, and that very few capture forever. It is that state when you no longer feel your body, where you perceive that it abandons you to merge with the instrument to which it is transferred, without thinking or hesitating, the music of the mind, or of the soul. A spiritual state that is achieved through music and which others approach through meditation, drugs, yoga, or any other activity or action that transcends time and space. The former becomes countless and the latter disappears.
Antón has that magic touch. It comes naturally and spontaneously. It doesn't matter that he doesn't know traditional musical language, it doesn't matter that he plays by ear or from memory, it doesn't matter that he has never heard a classic piece before and can reinterpret and improve it just five minutes after hearing it for the first time.
